Annie Richardson

Director of Development

As the Director of Development, Annie devises fundraising, marketing, and communications strategies. Her passion for helping kids motivates her to raise money and awareness on behalf of Arms Wide, and its mission to transform the lives of children in need of safe and nurturing permanent families.

Why I started with Arms Wide:

More than anything, I believe all kids deserve equal opportunities regardless of their ZIP codes and backgrounds. I’ve always wanted to work for an organization which helps to achieve that goal. I think Arms Wide does this in a tangible way. I couldn’t pass up the chance to have a direct, positive impact on kids’ lives.

My favorite part about my job:

First and foremost, my coworkers are incredible, and they go above and beyond to support kids and families. I’m also grateful that every day I have the opportunity to talk about the kids we work with and advocate for them in the community. To put it simply, I love knowing that I’m helping kids.

My least favorite part:

Although writing grants is incredibly important, it can be challenging. It can also be a struggle to summarize the complex adoption and foster care processes, as well as the numerous, personalized services we offer here at Arms Wide in a limited space and truly convey the impact of our programs. I also do not particularly enjoy when we are declined for funding but the community need is always greater than the resources available and I know our local foundations have to make tough funding choices!

More about me:

My husband and our daughters are my world. I studied government and business at the University of Texas. (Hook ’em! ) I love going back to Austin to cheer on the Longhorns at football games, our dog, live music, the Astros, binging mindless television, and leisurely biking. Plus, my husband and I love to travel when we can find the time.

Ask me about:

The 20,000+ kids in Texas’ foster care system. Useless trivia. Music.
