Scholarship Spotlight: Jamie Perello

Through the David and Jacque Holland Scholarship Fund, Arms Wide Adoption Services offers scholarships to young adults who are presently in foster care through Arms Wide, were adopted through Christian Child Help Foundation’s Special Needs Adoption Program, or through Spaulding for Children’s Special Needs Adoption Program, who are seeking higher education at a college, university or trade school.

Jamie Perello is one of 2016’s scholarship recipients. Currently a student at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, Jamie answered a few questions about her adoption journey and how this scholarship will help her obtain a degree. To learn more about Arms Wide’s next scholarship application cycle, please contact Shelly Webster, Director of Programs, at 713-681-6991.

Arms Wide: Tell us a bit about your adoption journey!

Jamie: My adoption journey is simple in my eyes. I grew up feeling loved. My adoption was very openly communicated and my parents have always been supportive of that communication. My adoption is an amazing part of my story here on earth and has really helped me see and understand God’s love for me.

AW: What does adoption mean to you?

Jamie: Adoption is a very unique gift. It’s sacrificial and it’s servitude. Adoption is one of the greatest gifts I have ever received and feel so blessed to be a part of the family I am in. My parents are my best friends and I couldn’t be more grateful for the plan God had for me to grow up in a loving Christian household.

AW: What is your intended major?

Jamie: I am currently majoring in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations.

AW: What do you plan to do with your degree?

Jamie: I’m interested in working with a non-profit as well as continuing down the road of entrepreneurship.

AW: What do you like to do in your free time?

Jamie: In my free time I enjoy water coloring and calligraphy. I am currently designing and creating wedding programs, wedding invitations and art for the home for clients, by hand.

AW: Is there anything else you would like us to know?

Jamie: One thing I would like to state is that I am forever grateful for the grace, support and financial help Arms Wide (formerly Spaulding for Children) has given me over the years. This organization is amazing and I have learned so much about God’s grace through my experience of being awarded this scholarship. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
