As a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter, Jackie Xu utilizes a child-focused recruitment model to help youth in foster care find safe and nurturing permanent families. She builds trusting relationships with children, explores their personal histories to identify meaningful connections, and collaborates with case workers, caregivers, and community partners to locate the best permanency options.

Why I started with Arms Wide:

I joined Arms Wide because of my passion for helping children in foster care find stability, belonging, and lifelong family connections. I want to be part of an organization that shares my belief that every child deserves a safe, nurturing family and the opportunity to thrive.

My favorite part about my job:

My favorite part of my role is building genuine connections with the youth I serve. I value the opportunity to engage with them on a personal level through listening to their stories, celebrating their strengths, and supporting them as they grow and develop confidence in themselves and their future. Watching youth open up, build trust, and take steps towards permanency is the most rewarding and inspiring part of my work.

My least favorite part:

One of the main challenges I face in my role is the limited availability of families who are open to older youth, sibling groups, or children with higher needs. While it can be discouraging at times, this challenge also drives me to think creatively and persistently in my recruitment efforts. I am dedicated to advocating for each child’s unique story and helping families see the strengths and potential within every youth, no matter their background or circumstance.

I started with Arms Wide as a Foster Care and Adoption Coordinator, then transitioned into the Placement and Permanency Coordinator position. Through my years of working with Arms Wide, my passion continues to grow for helping children in foster care find stability, belonging, and lifelong family connections. Now, as a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter, I love building trusting relationships with youth and supporting them as they grow and discover hope for their future. I believe every child deserves a safe and loving home.
